If you love houseplants but struggle to take care of them, what you need is a low-maintenance plant! Whether you are a beginner or a chronic plant killer, we listed ten indoor plants that will keep thriving without too much effort.
1. Chinese Evergreen
(Aglaonema commutatum)
Are you often away from home? Then this plant is perfect for you. It's durable and strong, and it grows in almost every condition. It tolerates low light conditions very well and requires low-care when it comes to the amount of water.
2. Jade Plant
(Crassula ovata)
Being a succulent, the Jade plant has tough and durable leaves that hold on to water. As any other succulent, it goes "dormant" if it doesn't get enough water, so you can keep the soil dry. It grows slowly and can last for many years. Just make sure to place it in a bright area.
3. Kalanchoe
This succulent grows colorful, long-lasting flowers and interesting hardy foliage. It doesn’t need much water and would much prefer to stay super dry. Place it in a sunny and warm spot, because it's very sensitive to the cold.
4. Peace Lily
(Spathiphyllum)
If you are looking for a plant that can survive in a dark room and bloom at the same time, you have just found the right one. Peace Lily is easy to grow: it likes low light and low humidity. You only need to remember to fertilize once every 2-3 months to encourage flowering. Last but not least: it can also purify the air from dangerous toxins!
5. Pothos
(Epipremnum aureum)
The Pothos plant, also known as Devil's ivy, can survive with low light and irregular watering, and can grow up to 10 feet! Bonus: it's also an air-purifying plant, able to absorb dangerous toxins like formaldehyde. It will look amazing in a hanging basket or as a climbing plant.
6. Schefflera
This popular plant, also called Umbrella Tree, has attractive leaves and air purifying powers. It's easy to care: just place it in a spot when it receives bright but indirect light. To water correctly, wait until the soil in the pot dries. But pay attention: the Schefflera is toxic to pets.
7. Dieffenbachia
Dieffenbachia plants have some of the most beautiful mix of green-white-yellow foliage ever. This gorgeous plant will add a tropical vibe to your home decor! Place it where it can receive some medium-low filtered light and keep the soil moist. Over time, it can grow quite tall.
8. Phalaenopsis Orchid
Phalaenopsis is the most common orchid to find. It stays in bloom for a long time, and it likes low light and humid spots. Keep the soil moist but not too wet, and make sure the pot has good drainage.
9. Peperomia
Peperomia plants have shiny and often textured leaves. Some popular varieties include watermelon, red-edge and ripple peperomias. They do best in medium or low-light conditions, and they like humidity. Be sure to let the top of the soil dry out between waterings.
10. Dragon Tree
(Dracaena marginata)
Dracaena Marginata is known for purifying your air and doesn’t need too much water. This plant will do great in a spot with bright indirect light; it can also handle lower light levels, but the leaves will look thinner. Remember to keep pets away from it, since it's toxic to pets.
Bonus plant: Pilea Peperomioides
We couldn't help adding our favorite green friend to the list! Pilea is an easy-to-care plant: just remember that it likes bright indirect light and prefers to stay dry rather than wet. Famous for giving birth to lots of babies, is also 100% pet safe and non-toxic.
