Step 1: Collect The Tools You Need

Propagating Pilea is pretty easy.

The best way to do it is by cutting the babies you can see popping up from the soil.

You will need a knife, some soil mixture, a small pot, and a small container full of water if you decide to go for water propagation.

Step 2: Cut The Baby

Gently pull the mother plant out of its pot.

Then, examine the soil and find a baby that is big enough to survive on its own.

Usually, a few inches will work fine.

Now, follow the baby about 2 centimeters underneath the soil, and cut it, making sure to cut the portion of soil and roots around it.

Step 3: Plant The Baby (Or Put It In Some Water First)

If the baby plant's roots are sufficiently developed, you can plant the pup straight into some moist soil.

If the plantlet doesn't have enough roots, place it into some water, and leave it there for at least 2-3 weeks. Remember to change the water frequently to keep it fresh and clean, and increase your chances of rooting! At some point, you will see some roots growing, and you will be able to plant the baby into the soil.

Choose a small pot with drainage holes, and fill it with the right soil mixture.

It's essential to use a very porous soil, with good drainage. You can use any all-purpose or tropical soil mixture or, if you prefer, make your own mixture at home. Use coco peat fiber or peat moss, and mix it with a small portion of perlite (one part perlite to nine parts soil).

Now you can place the baby in the soil, and water it slightly.

Step 4: Be Patient

Choose a proper location for your new plant, make sure to give the right care, and wait for the baby to grow!
